My Rock On Family kicked off the first weekend of the Summer Vacation season in style. We hoped on a plane and headed to the East Coast where we spent the weekend with family friends in Chatham Massachusetts. What a perfect place to spend Memorial Day weekend.
Chatham is located at the “elbow” of Cape Cod, the community became a shipping, fishing, and whaling center in the late 1700’s. If you love light houses like I do then Chatham Lighthouse will not disappoint. It was established by President Thomas Jefferson in 1808 to protect the ships circling the Cape.
This past weekend was everything I imagined a Cape Cod summer weekend would be. Seafood, relaxing seaside, shopping in cute little preppy stores, seashells, ice cream for dessert, and all those Boston accents!
If you have a chance to head up this directions there are a few places that you must visit.
Chatham Bars Inn is a MUST. Even if you don’t stay at this beautiful historical resort do yourself a favor and eat at the Beach House on the Patio. Enjoy a drink, some Lobster Salad and take in the beautiful scenery. The kids can even play in the sand while you enjoy a little grown up time.
Shopping in downtown Chatham is filled with Preppy Stores like the Black Dog, Jewelry stores, Toy Stores, Children Stores, Home Decor Stores, restaurants and ice cream parlors. It was a perfect way to spend an afternoon.
Want and afternoon of exercise or a leisurely bike ride? How about the Rail Trail. 22 miles of former Train Rail has been turned into a paved path that goes through town Dennis, Harwich, Brewster, Orleans, Eastham and Wellfleet.
Beaches, Beaches everywhere! Want to relax by the Ocean? How about the Sound? Want a calm lake? You can’t go wrong here. There’s a beach for everyone.
Did I mention I saw Harry Connick Jr. summer house? Woo hoo! Beautiful!!!
I’ve had such and amazing time I hate to say goodbye, but #romroadtrip must continue. Next we’re heading to Connecticut and New York City for more sightseeing. I love the East Coast! I love the history, the landscape, the shopping, and the food.
So where are you going this summer? Are you opting for a Staycation? We want to know. What does your town offer for Summer fun.
