It has been a great six months with Invisalign. Both Keenan and I have learned so much. His teeth are already looking better and this has been a much better experience than the years Noah wore braces. Keenan has had almost no pain. There weren’t tons of follow up appointments to tighten the braces or change out the bands.
We have had a couple of issues. One of his trays cracked according to him, “Just by taking it out of my mouth.” I’m not sure I’m buying that. It was an easy fix as he was at the end of that tray’s cycle so we just moved on to the next per doctor’s orders. He also lost one of his trays, but same story, we were at the end of the tray’s cycle. One tray lost in six months is a win in my book.
One of the big benefits I have noticed over the last six months is Keenan’s improved dental hygiene. Let’s just say that getting Keenan to brush his teeth was a job fit for a Gladiator. Now he happily does it and his teeth are so white and sparkly. He no longer begs me for teeth whitening strips which means I no longer have to say no and remind him to brush his teeth.
The other benefit that has been a wonderful and unexpected part of the process is that he no longer bites his nails. He can’t when he is wearing Invisalign. He has tried for years to quit and has been so frustrated by failing over and over again. He is over the moon about this little unpromised development. (This is not something Invisalign endorses or says it’s product will do.)
Keenan says not one person has asked him about them or even noticed he is wearing them which is a big deal to him. That’s not to say no one has noticed but they haven’t mentioned it. That means we are all just getting familiar with Invisalign or they aren’t seeing them on his teeth. Either way it has made him much less self conscious than braces would have. He wanted to get his teeth straightened for so long but had passed the point of no return in his mind on braces.
It has been a great six months. We can’t wait for another six to pass so we can see the beautiful end result!
