When my husband and I found out we were having Ellie we both drove little sports cars. I had a little Acura RSX and he had a Porsche. So naturally it was I who had to trade in their little car for a big SUV. I loved my little Acura, but I’ll admit, it’s no Porsche. After a few go arounds we finally came up with a car that we both agreed on. We ended up leasing an Infiniti FX35 for the last 3 years (ok, ok, so maybe it wasn’t a huge SUV, but it was still bigger than what I was use to). It’s been a great car, wasn’t too big, no problems, ok gas mileage, fun to drive and enough room for our needs, but I’m looking forward to something new. I tend to view cars as fun accessories. I don’t need super expensive cars, but I like to change it up every few years.
I remember when car shopping was fun. All I cared about was how much fun car to drive or do I look cute in the car. It wasn’t will the car seat fit in the back or is there enough room for my stroller. So now I’m doing the car lot dance. The responsible Mom in me is fight to keep the old fun me in check.
SUV’s are great, but then there’s the gas mileage. Station wagon or Mini Van? NO WAY!! They’re great for some people, but it’s just not me. I mean, come on, we only have one little girl. Do we really need a Mini Van? How about a cute little convertible? I can see it now, Ellie and I cruisin with the top down, big sunglasses and hats. How many toys do you think she’d throw out of the car? How many disapproving looks do you think I’ll get. Ok, what about a sporty little 2 door? Is it really such a pain to squeeze behind the passenger seat to buckle her in? Do you get use to toddler kicking the back of your seat? ARGH!! I just don’t know.
