I’m sure you’re all tired of hearing about Chick-fil-A President Dan Cathy and his choice to support anti-gay marriage groups. While I don’t agree with him, I fully support his ability to do so. We live in a country that allows him freedom of speech and religion. Mr. Cathy can say and believe anything he wants. I do not agree with his feelings though.
I do not believe you should be a good person because a book tells you to be. I believe you should be a good person because it’s just the right thing to do. I believe equality is the “right” thing to do. I believe that you should be able to marry the person you love regardless of race or sexual orientation.
Could you imagine if it was still illegal to marry someone based on race? Archaic, but that was also defended with words from the bible. Personally to me it’s just mind blowing. I just don’t understand how you can decide what is moral or immoral from words in a book. Why does one need a book to tell them to be a good and kind person. Doesn’t your conscience already tell you that?
Anyway, I will no longer be giving Chick-fil-a my business. As many of you already know I believe in equality. I believe that you should be able to marry whom ever you want.
I also believe that every dollar counts just as every vote counts. I understand that Chick-fil-a is franchised, but Mr. Cathy does make money from each franchise. I don’t want to contribute a half a cent to him, because it may just be my half a cent that goes towards one of these anti-gay organizations and I want no part of that.
With that said, I want you to know that I support you and your beliefs as well. I have many friends and family members who do not feel or believe the same as I and that’s ok. It doesn’t mean I love or even like them any less. I also know that this simple post, my tweets or my facebook updates aren’t going to change anyone’s mind. While I wish everyone believed in equality the way I do, I’m glad we live in a country where we can all believe and express our feelings freely.
Now if you’ll excuse me, I have more cow to eat.
