Every year we color white eggs for Easter. I always just assumed they were best for coloring. I’m a creature of habit.
This year I decided to experiment. 1 dozen brown and 1 dozen white.
First before you even start the coloring process, you need to know how to boil the perfect egg. Translation, no cracks!
- Place eggs in a dry pot.
- Fill pot with ice cold water about a 1 inch above the eggs.
- Once water comes to a boil, let boil for 15 minutes.
- Then let your eggs cool for about 20 minutes in the pot and then for a few hours in the fridge.
Now it’s time to color!
1. Take your eggs out of the fridge about 20 minutes before coloring. Wipe of the condensation before coloring.
2. Boil 6 cups of water (or one cup for every color you’re going work with)
3. Pour one cup of just boil water into a glass (do not use metal, make sure it’s glass)
4. Add 2 table spoons of vinegar to each glass. This will help add a more vivid color to your eggs.
5. Add egg to color and let it soak for at least 10 minutes. Don’t forget to rotate half way through. If you would like softer colors remove from color after about 5 minutes.
6. Place egg on dry rack and let it dry completely before adding any embellishments.
I let each a white and brown egg sit in the color for 10 and 5 minutes. The eggs on the left are the White eggs and the eggs on the right are brown eggs.
So what do I think?
The white eggs have a brighter color, but took longer to dry. The white were Ellie’s favorite. She liked the brighter colors better.
The brown eggs have a darker color and were actually my favorite. They have more a vintage feel, which means they match my decor better.
In the end, they’re both going to look super cute on our Easter table this weekend.
