Last week we talked about feeling left out and how to deal with those feelings. Let’s just come clean now, no one is ever perfect. We all make mistakes, but how do you deal with your mistakes?
Naturally if you’re in the wrong you need to apologize, but it’s how you apologize that really counts.
1. Make sure you’re sincere. Take responsibility for your actions. This means don’t blame others, no excuses, and no whining. Simply say “I’m sorry”.
2. Make sure you say why you’re sorry. What did you do wrong? Why are you sorry? Be specific.
3. Let your friend know how you wish you would have handled the situation.
4. Make sure your friend knows how much they mean to you.
So let’s write about the last time you needed to apologize to a friend.
Parent talking points: How do you feel your child handled the situation? What could they do differently next time?
