For the last couple of weeks we’ve talked about how Social Media can help you raise your children.
Last we went over a few Twitter Do’s and Don’ts
Even thought Ellie was born only 4 years ago, I had yet to discover the world of Social Media. Well I was on facebook, but I hadn’t discovered all the great groups or pages yet. There are so many amazing groups, pages and discussions going happening on Facebook. Where were you guys when I was bored during midnight feedings?
Before I get into some of my favorite pages, let me explain the difference between a group and a page.
Facebook describes it as “Facebook created Pages when we noticed that people were trying to connect with brands and famous artists in ways that didn’t quite work on Facebook…Not only can you connect with your favorite artists and businesses, but now you also can show your friends what you care about and recommend by adding Pages to your personal profile.”
Basically… A Page is similar to a personal page. Updates, pictures, discussions, and so forth. Anyone can “like” a page. A Group are more personal and tend to be smaller. You normally have to be invited or approved to join.
Groups are not indexed by external search engines, but pages are just like your personal profiles.
So what does that mean for you?
If you’re going to start page for your family, class alumni, or any other type group not open to the rest of the public, a group page is going to work for you. You can close your group page to the public and only add those invited.
If you’re going start a page for your blog, or company you’re going to want to start a page. You can assign other page administrators to your facebook page as well. Oh a quick side note, even if someone is a “fan” or has “liked” your blog page, unless they are your friend on Facebook they can not see your personal wall.
Pages are a great place to have discussions with other people like you. Have a question? Ask the masses. Post the question on a facebook wall.
Let’s get into some of my favorite pages.
