This past weekend I shared an article from LA local CBS Station entitled Measles Outbreak: Doctor Says Kids Who Haven’t Been Vaccinated Should Avoid Major Public Places on my personal Facebook page. My short little mom rant went crazy!
Before I go on I want to point out a few things. I recognize that there are kids who can not get vaccines for medical reasons. I also want to point out that I said my daughter is eight months old and not old enough for the vaccine. I think it’s important that those who can get vaccinated do get vaccinated to protect those who can’t. The rest you can read for yourself.
What we noticed there are a number of crazy and outrageous response to this outbreak and the vaccine. We thought we’d share a few of our favorites with you.
The conspiracy theorist
Please take notice at the brilliant scientist recommending that families with measles just need to take more vitamin A. I mean, duh, it’s of course that easy.
You weren’t a good enough mom
Come on people! Obviously people are getting the measles because they are eating too much sugar and not bathing enough.
Wait, what? A nine month old got the measles because his mom was vaccinated? So it wasn’t because of the infected person who brought the measles to Disneyland in the first place? Bad Mom!
Of course! Obama did it
I’ll be honest, I’m shocked that this is the only one I saw blaming Obama.
I’m just irrational
Apparently Candi does not have the ability to read and comprehend all five sentences of my status. As I pointed out earlier, my child is eight months old thus has not yet received her MMR vaccine. She will get that at her 12 month visit.
You’re not helping the cause
Ok, there are a few ridiculous pro vaccine post out there too.
Really? Domestic terrorists you say? Don’t you think that’s a bit much?
And that junk that settles at the bottom of dirty water
I’m not sure why she has sediment, but maybe there’s a new vaccine for that too.
Can anyone tell me what this girl is talking about?
The bottom line here is education. We need more education and understanding. Less scare tactics. More statistics. We also need to stop judging each other for the decisions we make. And finally, intelligent debate wouldn’t suck.
