So now you have a good handle on Twitter and Facebook and you’re thinking you’d like to start a blog. Maybe you already have a blog, but feel like you’re all alone and no one is reading you. This post is for you.
Over the next couple of weeks we’ll go over why someone blogs, hosting, which blogging platform fits you best, layouts, colors, and becoming part of the community (getting comments).
Before we get into all the technical details let’s begin with the question, “Why do you want to blog?”
I think the answer to this question is slightly different for everyone. I started Rock On Mommies because I was feeling lost after Ellie was born. It was a way for me to feel part of a community. It was great to hear feedback from my readers and to pass on any little tidbits I learned.
So why do you want to blog?
There is no wrong answer to this question, but if your number one answer is “To make money” you should probably think of a different career choice. There is only a very small percentage of bloggers that actually earn a viable income directly from their blog. There are other avenues to take that begin with a blog that could eventually earn you an income. Consulting, paid product review and speaking engagements are potential avenues. But the day’s of Dooce selling advertising and living off of that as her primary income are gone.
With that in mind, I ask again, “Why do you want to blog?”
Think about and next week well go over the different blogging platforms.
