My new journey to get informed on the truth and myths about donating bone marrow and cord blood has left me more confused than ever. Today, I spoke to a bone marrow representative from the hospital and she told me that cord blood is only good if used for the direct family. Say what?
So i asked her to clarify. She answered. An example: If your brother was sick, your cord blod probably wouldn’t help him because it would be half of your spouse’s or BABY DADDY’S genes. If this is true what does this mean and why do people want us to donate it? And how is it possible?
I know 2 people who received a random persons stem cells/bone marrow and they are both alive and well in full remission for years now. So it does happen! This is so confusing. I suppose cord blood donation is good for research too. But now i need to dig further!
on a personal note, i am having my blood screened and being added to the system this week!
did i mention how easy it is? you can do it just like normal blood donation!
