It’s a new year, even a new decade so it’s time to clean out our closets and get rid of the past. I thought I’d give you some insight this month on things to keep and things to donate. First off I want to tell you that don’t look forward to cleaning out my closet, it’s just not that fun. But it is necessary!
Let’s start with the basics. Does it fit? If the answer is no, donate it. If you swear you are going to lose weight and it will fit soon don’t count on it. Keep one pair of skinny jeans as incentive to get back to your pre-pregnancy weight but donate the rest. When you do get back to your skinny jeans weight you can reward yourself with new clothes, which is the best reward. You won’t want your out of date old wardrobe.
Now if it fits, is it comfortable? I have some great shoes that I love and some that every time I wear them I am mad at myself~ I forgot how my feet hurt when I have them on and how painful they are. Get rid of those. Also everyone has a dress or a top where the strap always falls down and annoys, get rid of those too. You’ll only be annoyed when you wear them. Comfort and fashion don’t have to go together, sometimes you just have to grin and bear it in the name of fashion.
Color wise, all neutrals will be still in fashion. Keep those; you can wear those forever. Neon will only be good this spring and then it will be out so be choosy about what you keep. When you do wear neon’s anchor it with khaki that will look the freshest. As far as Denim colors- you can keep them all really- all washes are in for 2010. I prefer lighter denim in spring. I like pale blue thin jeans. Move your darker heavier washes to the back of your closet.
If you are like me you have a lot of jeans in your closet. Skinny Jeans and Bootleg styles are here to stay. You will still be in fashion wearing them in 2010. It’s cool because so many brands have come out with jeans and no brand is an “it” brand anymore because there are so many choices at so many price points. The important thing is fit- if your jeans fit you and you feel comfortable in them then keep them!
Hope this helps you with what to keep and what to donate- hey it’s a tax write off so it’s good for you to donate, be generous and get new clothes but keep the classics.
