Living in Arizona in my teens and twenties, I was always on the quest for the perfect tan. Many times I would spend all day in the pool our outside soaking up the rays with no sun screen. I know have the freckles and sun spots to prove it. I’ve tried all kinds of creams and lotions, but nothing worked. It was time to invest in a real treatment. It was time for an IPL (Intense Pulse Light).
So I made an appointment for a consultation and then for my treatment at AP Medical Spa in Encinitas. I took a deep breath took a before picture and marched myself in.
So what I’m about to show are before and after pictures. My face is completely naked in all of them and there has been no to adjusting to the photos. Yes, I’m going to have to take a deep breath before hitting publish!
Just in 5 days I saw major changes. It’s been 8 weeks and I love the progress. I plan on going in for my next treatment in August, but here are my results so far.
A number you had a TON of questions about IPL. So I sat down with the Stacy Grissen, owner of AP Med Spa, to have her answer some of your questions.
1. It’s been a little over 2 weeks since I had my IPL and I crazy about the results! What are the most important things I should be doing to take care of my skin?
Everyone needs to have a solid skin care product regime that includes, at minimum, an antioxidant serum, eye cream, moisturizer & of course sunscreen during the day. Drink plenty of water bcs it helps hydrate the skin. But it is essential to find clinically tested products that gives the skin moisture directly to the face, neck and décolletage (neck).
2. Can you explain what IPL is exactly and how it works?
It is an acronym that stands for Intense pulsed light. Aka-photofacial or photo rejuvenation.
It is a light modality to that selectively applies heat to pigmented cells that are already damaged. It can target unwanted brown spots, red, & even dark hairs. This stimulates the natural process of healing, giving the skin renewed collagen, elastin & new cells. The end result is younger skin. It improves skin texture, shrinks pores, softens fine lines….all with very little downtime.
3. I’ve seen a number of coupon site advertising IPL special for super low prices. What makes you different?
Our treatment is quite in depth. Most of the coupons you see out there are so low because they do not do the entire treatment area, as they should. For example, we spend a full 1 1/2 hours treating the face! The “coupon deals” usually only provide a 20 minute treatment.
We also have a technique that allows patients to get similar results to 3-4 treatments elsewhere.
4. I love how my skin looks now. I use to over obsess about my pores, but they have almost disappeared or is that my imagination.
It really can reduce pore size. It stimulates cell turnover to help this effect. That effect, alone, makes it all worthwhile!
5. Who is a good candidate for IPL?
Almost anyone. We even safely treat difficult skin types, like Asian skin. African American skin is usually contraindicated. It is the treatment of choice for Rosacea. If someone has “pregnancy mask” we will need to evaluate them to make sure they will benefit. An extremely popular, cost-effective treatment.
6. How often should I come back and see you?
That is highly individual. It may be 30 days or 2 years. I usually just tell my patients that they should wait until there is enough pigment showing before rebooking. We live in Cali so we all are highly exposed to continual sun damage. Some patients prefer to schedule every 6 months, for prevention and optimal skin.
I couldn’t be happier with my IPL and can’t wait to see the results after then next visit. Make sure you’re following AP Med Spa on Facebook and give them a call to set up your consultation (760) 436-8400.
