My current obsession is anything chalkboard. Trust me, you’ll see a ton of project in the next couple weeks that are chalkboard themed. For Zach’s birthday party I wanted to direct everyone to the backyard with more than just a note on the door. While wandering through Target one day it came to me! A surfboard chalkboard!
Ok, a full size surfboard maybe a bit much, but a skimboard work perfectly!
I purchased this one at Target, but you can pick them up a most sporting good stores too.
All you’ll need:
Chalkboard Paint and Paint brush.
I purchased this Martha Stewart Chalkboard paint at Michaels. I’ve also used a more industrial chalkboard paint from Home Depot in the past. The more industrial paint is easier to write on and erase.
I should also be mentioned that Chalkboard paint is not magnetic. You will need up to 6 base coats of the magnetic paint if you want that. For this project I just used the chalkboard paint.
You will need to apply at least 3 coats alternating directions. 1st coat horizontal, 2nd coat vertical, 3rd coat horizontal and so on. Let it fully dry in between each coat.
We used wood glue to attach these wood letters just add a little something more to it. It would also be cute to add your child’s name or even your last name.
I also drilled 2 holes and thread a medium sized rope through each hole and secured with a double knot so that we could hang it as well.
And there you have it! It was super easy!
