Last month I was reading a blog on Wiifitmommies.com about new EA Sports Active for the Wii. A number of blogger from across the country spent the weekend in Santa Barbara trying out the new game with the trainers and their enthusiasm had me just as excited. I preordered it the moment I could.
I’ve danced my whole life and have never really loved the whole working out thing. I never really had to, until Ellie. I’ve done palates and yoga, but going to the gym has never been my thing. After I had Ellie I had a personal trainer come to the house. This helped a ton and got me into manageable shape, but once Ellie was mobile it got harder to keep her entertained while I worked out. I found myself more concerned with what Ellie was doing than what I was doing.
So when WiiFit came out last year I was super excited! I figured I could do the WiiFit during Ellie’s nap. I loved it! I did it everyday for 3 months and then went on an extended vacation. When I got home I continued to use it, but not as religiously. When I finally busted out the Balance Board a few weeks ago, I swear it yelled at me.
WiiFitMommies.com inspired me and I broke out the ole’ WiiFit and started it up again. I’ve done at least 30 minutes a day for the last few weeks. I could feel my arms getting smaller and there fewer dimples in my bottom. I thought it would be a great warm up to the new EAS Active that was to come. Boy was I wrong…
The second I put down Ellie for her nap I raced down the stairs to open my UPS package. EAS Active comes with an exercise band, a hostler from around your thigh, and of course the disc. I popped the disc in the wii and I was off. I set up my avatar and went through the journal. Now there is a choice to do a 30 day challenge, which is what I’d normally do, but I’m leaving for vacation in 14 days so it just didn’t make sense. There are a ton of preset workout, so I chose to do the 30 minute hard workout, which is a mixture of cardio and strength training.
Now just so you, I didn’t pick the hard to show off, I really thought that I was ready for it. I figured I was in ok, if not good shape and that I’d be able to tackle quick little 30 minute work out. Um, yeah, NO!!! This short little 30 minutes kicked my butt! At 20 minutes the sweat was pouring off me! At 30 minutes I just wanted to lie down and pass out!
The work out consisted of dancing, boxing, running, squats, lunges, jump squats, switch back lunges, knee high run, and a number of other things.
It was a great workout, nothing like the WiiFit! Tomorrow I’m going to be a bit sore, so I’ll probably try the 30 minute easy. I’m going to sleep well tonight!
