What’s old is new again, but looks old? What’s that dang saying? When we moved into our new home I we wanted everything bright. No dark furniture and beach soft colors. The problem is, most of our furniture was dark. I blame the old Tuscan trend from years ago. Now I don’t have a billion dollars to go and replace all our furniture so I’ve had to make due with what we have. For me that means busting out the sander, buying paint and a lot of time to refinish some of the pieces.
The first piece that I’m going to tackle is my entry way table. In our last house it sat right inside the door.
It wasn’t exactly what I wanted, but it served it’s purpose. We hide shoes in the baskets and mail in the drawers.
Here in the new house it just didn’t fit in.
If you look closely you can see where I already started popping the shells out of the little circles. It was time. This table needed a new look.
Let the sanding begin.
I honestly thought it would take me a few hours to have the table sanded down. Nope it pretty much took be a whole Saturday. I’m sure my neighbors wanted to kill me!
After sanding it down and then cleaning all the dust off it was time for the stain. I picked a drift wood color to go with the beach theme in my house.
Remember, stain with the grain!
After the stain dried overnight I reattached the decorative circles and added new knobs.
Replaced the baskets and…
So now my entry way is a little more beach and a little less dark.
Next, those lanterns are getting a make over. Maybe one white and one a coral.
