Crazy Good Southwest Surf and Turf Skewers

I have a confession, I am an adult and I hate most vegetables.  Whew, I feel so much better getting that off my chest.  As a kid I always assumed when I grew to be an adult all those gross green things would magically taste good.  I’m 40 something and that still has not happened. UGH!  If I could survive on meat and carbs alone I’d be just fine!  The problem is that I normally have too many carbs in my diet.

I love the idea of skewers, but remember how I mentioned that I hate most vegetables?  Add bell peppers top my list of hated vegetables. I don’t even like the taste blending in with the rest of my food.  I do,however, like papilla peppers…in moderation.  That is where the idea of Southwest Surf and Turf Skewers came from and they are crazy good!!! Southwest Surf and Turf SkewersIngredients
Baby porto bella sushrooms
Small boiling onions
6oz steak cubed (cut of your choice)
12 shrimp prawns
Pasilla pepper
Olive oil
Artisan salts (for this recipe I used fleur de sel salt and Maine apple smoked salt)

Prepping
Depending on the size of your skewers, you’ll need 12 of each prepped item to make 4 skewers.
Take the shells off the prawns leaving the tails.
Cut the ends of the onions, skin and cut in half.
Wash and de-stem the mushrooms.
Cut the top of the pepper off, cut out the center and make sure to remove all seeds. Cut into equal sized squares.
Cube your steak between an inch and a half to two inches.
Don’t forget to heat up the grill!

raw skewersDirections
Once all of your items are prepped simply slide them onto your skewers. Keep in mind that you’ll want to add them in a pattern. Prawn, onion, pepper, steak, mushroom and then repeat. After your skewers are all put together lay them on a plate and brush olive oil to help them from sticking to the grill.

Now it’s time for our secret ingredient… Artisan salts. They have changed our world! For the prawns and vegetables sprinkle a little Fleur De Sel salt. It will add a little spicy kick. To the steak sprinkle Maine Apple Smoked salt.

Grill until the meat and prawns are cooked through, about 5minutes each side. Now enjoy!Southwest Surf and Turf Skewers
