Back to School Readiness Checklist

Back to School Readiness Checklist

This is a sponsored post by me on behalf of Invisalign. Where getting your teeth straightened is cool.

It’s that exciting time of year. Back to school for the kiddos. I don’t know about you but our household schedule goes to absolute crap during the summer. We like it that way after the grind of the school year.

It is a lot of fun, but it’s time to tighten everything back up and start the process of getting back into school shape. About three weeks before school starts we begin the process. Here is our Back to School Readiness Checklist.

Sleep Schedule
While staying up late every night and sleeping in has been fun, that junk won’t fly during the school year. It’s time to get back into bed at a decent hour and start waking up earlier. Week one we go to bed two hours later than normal school bedtime and wake up no later than two hours later. Week two is one hour and week three on actual school time.

Reading, Writing and Arithmetic
While it’s our goal to make the kids read daily in the summer, like everything else we get pretty lax about it. And by lax I mean the only time we remember is when they won’t stop talking and we need a break so we tell them it’s time for their daily reading. Now is the time for them to start reading 30 minutes a day again. Our boys like to read at bedtime. We also break out the math and writing workbooks and have them spend 30 minutes per day brushing up on their skills.

Back to School Supplies
Time to go spend the small fortune you’ve saved for a vacation on school supplies. Always a daunting task, but the kids love it. (Secretly I love it too. There is nothing like getting new pencils and pens…even at 44.)

InvisalignGet Your Appointments Done
Invisalign, teeth cleaning, sports physicals, etc. When those kids go back in school you want to enjoy every joyous moment of peace you can during the day. That’s hard to do when you are taking them out of school for appointments. Get them all out of the way before school starts.

Back to School Shopping
When I was little my grandmother used to taking me shopping for a new pair of shoes every August. I have carried on the tradition with my guys. We also go through their closets and get rid of stuff that doesn’t fit any longer, make a list of what we need and shop for that. I love back to school shopping!

Back to School Contract

One of my favorites and most definitely one of the kids most dreaded. This contract is so awesome! We go over it every school year, revise where needed and then we all sign it. HIGHLY recommend this! Click HERE for the free Back to School Printable Contract printable!

Back to School Table Talk
Get the conversation started. A new school year can be very nerve wracking for kids. New teacher, a new classroom of kids, will they be smart enough, will they be good enough at kickball…this list of ten question are great ways to address these topics over family dinner! Click HERE for the free Back to School Table Talk printable.

Create a Lunch List
My kids spend the entire year eating half of what I make and complaining about the rest. This year we are putting together a list of foods they would like to see in their lunch. Click HERE for the free Lunch List printable. Your kids will love filling this out!
