We live less than a mile from the beach and our home represents that. From the way we decorate, to the food we eat, to the way we exercise (or at least the way my husband exercises) to the way we celebrate. Why would Thanksgiving be any different. Here are the simple touches I add to our coastal home to make it feel like Thanksgiving.
You need to promise to ignore my hearth. I still haven’t found the perfect slab to put there.
I made the banner and added a 4 extra flags with a starfish, sand dollar, coral, and a shell to make it a little more beachy. Found out how I made this here.
I LOVE the way love the way a bundle of birch logs look by a fireplace. Of course I do not live near a birch forest so I bought mine at Crate and Barrel.
The dining room is the most important room on Thanksgiving! Luckily our dining room is one of the only rooms complete in our remodel.
I generally try to keep the table itself simple. I don’t want to have to be shuffling decor while we’re try to serve the turkey. I like to put my centerpiece in one container so that I can simply lift it off the table when it’s time to serve. I love to just mix the seasonal items with the sea items I find for our home and along our shoreline. Some of my other fall center pieces can be found here.
I use our place settings to add a touch of color.
Again, adding seasonal items to your everyday decor adds so much.
Of course the breakfast nook needs just a touch of something. Replacing the starfish that normally sits with the candles with a gourd gives more of a fall feeling.
I even give our Thanksgiving dishes a touch of the coast. The famous Hissong pumpkin pie recipe can be found here.
