Has school started up for your kids yet? For some it has, but there are still many families who have a few days, even a few weeks left before the bell rings and it’s back to the grind of bus stops and carpool lines.
One of the best parts of summer are all the great flicks that hit the theaters, and if you haven’t seen them yet here are 8 great movies to take your kids to see.
The Fault in Our Stars – First let me say that if you child is a reader and hasn’t read this book yet, add it to their list. Labeled as Young Adult Literature, even parents all over the nation have fallen in love with this best-selling novel of two cancer stricken teens who do not let their devastating prognosis interfere with true love. I would recommend this book and movie for your teens and older tweens.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles – Oh does this movie take me back!! Who was your favorite turtle? Mine was always Raphael. Showing my age a bit? Maybe, but how fun to have a movie that reaches back into your childhood that you can now share with your own children. Another great flick to catch with your teens and tweens. TMNT hits theatres August 8th.
X-Men: Days of Future Past – Being as where this falls in the X-Men movie family, I feel like you really need to see some of the other movies before you see this one. Because of that, I would only recommend this one for your teens and older tweens. You can definitely expect a ton of action, and a slice or two of romance, as you have seen with the past X-Men movies.
Transformers: Age of Extinction – Your teens who are fans of the Transformers franchise will enjoy this film that takes place 4 years after the invasion that happened in Transformers: Dark Side Of The Moon. However, this movie offers some new, younger, cast members sure to draw in your older tweens as well. Unfortunately, I wouldn’t recommend this for your younger children who may be playing with the Transformers toys at home.
Planes: Fire & Rescue – One of the only movie that came out this summer suitable for younger kids, but still one that can be enjoyed by the whole family. You get plenty of action as Dusty Crophopper, who previously rose from the fields to become a world known air racer, joins a rescue to team to fight fires blazing through a national forest. If your kids are into planes and helicopters, they’ll have fun identifying all the variations flying across the screen.
Guardians of the Galaxy – Alien misfits, and ex-cons, team up with a space pilot to go up against a common rival and must work together to save the universe. Whether your family follows Marvel comics or not, this is looking like it’s going to be a huge hit!
Earth to Echo – This is probably as close as you’re going to get to finding an E.T.-like movie. You’ve got a cute little alien, a band of middle school friends, and a little trouble with the government. The result is a new sci-fi movie sure to please the whole family.
How to Train Your Dragon 2 – FOUR YEARS fans waited for the sequel, and finally the whole gang is back!! Taking place 5 years after our original visit to Berk, Hiccup, his dragon, Toothless, and all his friends are soaring through the skies again. This time they face a rival worthy of their history books, and must work to save a newly discovered island full of new dragons. It’s not going to be easy, but I think we can expect the same Viking spirit to help pull them through. Aside from Planes, this movie looks to be suitable for younger children, especially if they enjoyed the first HTTYD.
What was your favorite summer movie this year?
