23 weeks! More than 1/2 way there.
This time pregnancy is a little? different. Trying to keeping up with an 18 month old, Ellie is a big girl in? the 1st grade with big girl needs, being 41 years old and I still have work. UGH!
There are less afternoon naps for me this time. Less time to skim ?Pinterest for the perfect nursery decor. Less time to cuddle with? Ellie to assure her no one is going to forget about her. Less time to? giggle with my husband about… well, being pregnant.
The other thing there’s less time for. ME! I can’t just run to my? favorite workout class, wander through Buy Buy Baby looking at all those ?cute baby item. I have less time to chat with friends. And all this ?less time has resulted in one major problem. I feel like crap! My? shoulders hurt, my head hurts and my neck hurts from all the stress.
I finally decided it was time for a massage and thank goodness La Costa Resort and Spa are right around the corner. The great thing about going to a resort is that you have more time to sit back and relax before and after your massage.
Time time I had an amazing masseuse who took the time to give me a few great Prenatal Massage Do’s and Don’ts.
Don’t lay on your stomach. Pregnancy massage pillows are not recommend either. If not used correctly they can cut off oxygen to the baby and you. Even a pregnancy table can cause stress on your back.
It’s ok to lay on your left side. Be sure to have a proper pillow for support around your stomach and legs.
Don’t lay flat on your back. This can cut off circulation to your legs.
Do use a wedge or a table inclines your upper torso. This will relieve pressure on your legs and increase blood flow.
Don’t get a massage if you are a high risk pregnancy. Be sure to get permission from your doctor before.
Do find a certified massage therapist who has been trained to perform prenatal massages.
Don’t apply too much pressure, especially sensitive pressure points.
Stay hydrated. Drink lots of water before and after your massage.
A prenatal massage should improve circulation and relieve aches in your back and hips, bringing comfort and relaxation. It should not cause any discomfort. If you start to experience any discomfort, pains or a headache stop immediately and call your doctor.
